Preparing for: Me

Each traveler's checked steps and document readiness are tracked separately here to help you prepare. Depending on official guidance, each traveler may need a separate application, fee, appointment, or evidence — check the relevant official guidance for each person. Tracking preparation here does not change how any application is actually handled.

  1. Costs 500 INR for a single or multiple visa (Indian nationals, fee current from 1 July 2026 — check the link for the live figure) — plus a separate VFS service fee, charged in addition to the government visa fee. Submit your application through a Visa Application Centre (VFS Global) — no prior appointment is needed. The Embassy will never ask for payment over a phone call or email to verify documents or expedite your visa.

  2. Applications can be accepted from 3 months prior to your travel date.

  3. Your passport, a completed visa application form with photo, your flight itinerary, proof you can pay your travel expenses, and a filled-in itinerary for your stay in Japan.

  4. Applications are submitted to a Visa Application Centre (VFS Global) rather than directly to the Embassy.

  5. Takes approximately one week, though this may take longer case by case, or if the Embassy needs to consult the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Tokyo.

  6. You will receive a "visa issuance notice" in electronic form rather than a sticker in your passport. You must show this on a mobile device at the airport — internet access is needed to display it, and a PDF, photo, screenshot, or printed copy is not accepted.
